T.he Norwegian nonetheless paraded a strong side, with Marcus Rashford and Daniel James all starting upfront. However, the attackline could not break the Magpies' defence that held on to claim maximum points to ease pressure on Steve Bruce.
United came closest to scoring the opener in the 41st minute through Harry Maguire, but the Englishman missed a sitter after shooting wide. The second half of the match saw both sides start aggressively, with James coming close to breaking the deadlock in the 58th minute.
Longstaff went on to bag the opener on his Premier League debut in the 72nd minute, firing past a helpless David De Gea.
The visitors were unable to find an equaliser, as the home side held on to cart away all the three points.
